The Land Team

Alec Bauserman

Alec Bauserman is a native of the Shenandoah Valley, received a degree from Virginia Tech in Biology, and works as a high school teacher in Page County. He and his family live on a small farm outside Elkton where they raise livestock and direct-market their meats to local families. He believes that all Christians are called to steward God's creation in a way that glorifies our Lord and leaves the land better than we found it. He is passionate about the interrelationship between science, agriculture, food, and theology and will talk your ear off about it if given the chance. He is joined in his work by his wife Kelly, son Lucas, and daughter Anna.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Kate Glick

Kate grew up in Arlington, VA where she spent a lot of time outside, lifeguarding, rowing on the Potomac River and exploring the museums in DC. After graduating from UC Davis with a degree in Sociology, she returned to Virginia to be close to her family. Her current research includes permaculture, sustainability, mindfulness and ancient history. Kate is on the flower garden team and she collected the environmental research for the COTL Cemetery Study Team. She enjoys creating art inspired by nature and she has assisted with several art meditations with the older youth in Catachesis. She believes that we can all make the world a better place by loving God, ourselves, our neighbors and the beautiful earth we live on. She lives in McGaheysville with her husband Fred and they have three amazing sons.

Joe Martin

Joe and his wife LaVonne have lived in the valley since 2006.  Joe grew up working on his uncle's dairy farm, so he is used to tending crops and cattle.  His favorite farm activity was bringing in the corn harvest.  However, his life changed as educational pursuits led him into a career in medicine.  He worked on the cardiac anesthesia team in Charleston, WV for many years and continues to practice at RMH in a part-time role. Joe planted a small orchard on his home property 5 years ago and used that knowledge to select 50 trees for the church orchard this past spring.  His passion is building hiking trails, which are slowly coming together on the COTL Abbey property.
