“Annunciation” by Kelly Ostergren

Annunciation to the Shepherds. William Blake. 1809

“Annunciation”

We sing Hosanna:
Come.
And He does—among us again.
Body of Christ, broken for you.
Blood of Christ, shed for you.

The circle's ends collapse again:
Annunciation and Passion
sharing the same sunrise.
But this is more than the chance
collision of dates in March
once in a hundred years.

Every Sunday
God's messenger tells the glorious,
unsearchable truth.
Every Sunday
I say: Yes. Be with me.
Let me be home,
just as you said it would be.

You are all kinds of everywhere
and
here: in my palm, my mouth,
most Intimate Lover—
present—holding and held.
