Food and Craftsmanship
God's first gift to humans was food to eat. Our first sin was an illicit meal, eaten in isolation and for private gain. Fittingly, God accomplishes our healing through bread and wine, at a supper in which He is both host and meal. Because of this history, we approach our food's cultivation and consumption differently. We embody our community through shared meals. We grow food and raise livestock in a manner that respects its created identity. We produce food to share, not to horde. We use food to express generous hospitality that mirrors God's hospitality to us. Likewise, we craft goods at the abbey with quality and love, the work being worthy of our attention.
The redemption of humans must radiate out and include the restoration of the land and the animals. Cultivating our land and its inhabitants is integral to our Gospel witness.
